No more internet Tower of Babel!
For many in the e-commerce world, life consists of late-night hours of spreadsheet work matching up reports from various different sales engines into a single format that’s intelligible to whatever reporting the company uses. It is a waste of time, can introduce errors in copying, and promotes arguments about whether number A includes tax B.
It also makes it difficult to integrate various systems from 3rd parties like fulfillment, credit validation, home installation or customer loyalty tools (like our very own CustomerGauge)
For sometime we have been thinking about a method of speeding CustomerGauge integration with various e-commerce sites. Although the information is fairly straightforward, each vendors system has to be handcrafted.
Today, faced with another integration, I searched the web and found what I was looking for – kindred spirits wanting this: Standardizing e-commerce providers on the blog of Iconico. And in the space of a few hours, Nico Westerdale from Iconico has set up a facebook group with a name we jointly decided on: ESIX (E-commerce Standard Information eXchange Format).
Hopefully, we can publish a standard that vendors of ecommerce software can write to. Interested parties are encouraged to join the group for discussion.
Then ESIX can be used by many reporting tools or fulfillment companies – or maybe for functions that we can’t even guess today – perhaps a whole new industry.
Today we make the commitment that CustomerGauge will be able to read ESIX files from any vendor. And that will save a whole lot of integration dollars and time!
